Today, the Partnership issued the following statement on the New York State FY 2022 Budget:

“This year’s state budget fulfills much of the long wish list of advocates who have been frustrated by the relative fiscal discipline exercised over the past decade,” said Kathryn Wylde, President and CEO of the Partnership for New York City. “It is an understandable response to the needs and inequities that have been exposed and deepened during the pandemic. But that does not mean that it is wise. New York is overly dependent on volatile personal income taxes and this budget makes us even more vulnerable to the whims of global markets and of a highly mobile population. Federal funding of more than $100 billion could have given New York breathing room to emerge from the pandemic and digest its impact before committing to a huge increase in spending and taxation over the next seven years.”
