“The Partnership welcomes Gov. Hochul’s editorial today pushing for a sensible update of New York’s wrongful death statute. No one disputes that families should be supported in terrible tragedies. However, such a drastic policy shift in long-established law and practice must be evaluated on how it will impact the health and finances of all New Yorkers, who already face high health care and insurance costs, and whose safety net hospitals continue to struggle to support New York’s most vulnerable populations. A matter of such complexity and sensitivity must be approached thoughtfully, where the needs of all New Yorkers are adequately addressed,” said Kathryn Wylde, President & CEO of the Partnership for New York City.
