Statement from Kathryn Wylde, President & CEO of the Partnership for New York City, on Tentative Contract Between City and UFT

May 01, 2014

“Congratulations to Mayor de Blasio and UFT President Michael Mulgrew for negotiating a responsible new contract that recognizes both the fiscal constraints facing the city and the importance of increased support for teachers and greater flexibility in work rules and regulations.

“It is encouraging that the Administration and the UFT have come up with a formula under which all city contracts can be funded within the existing city budget, without tax increases, while still offering competitive compensation and introducing critical reform of a health care insurance program for employees and retirees that the city can no longer afford.

“The fact that the Chancellor and the UFT are on the same page with respect to work rule and administrative reforms bodes well for the kind of collaborative efforts that are so necessary for ensuring that public school graduates are better prepared for college and careers.”
