New Poll Finds Transit, Safety, Affordability Are Top NYC Voter Issues in General Election

A new poll commissioned by the Partnership for New York City found that transit, safety, and affordability were top issues for New York City voters ahead of the November general election. The poll, which was conducted by Morning Consult, found that nearly 50% of New Yorkers said that better, more reliable transit would improve their daily commute. The poll also found that 40% of New York voters said that more law enforcement is the most important action the city can take to reduce crime and that 34% of New Yorkers support building more affordable housing as the #1 way to make the city more affordable. Transit & Accessibility
47.9% of respondents said that better, more reliable public transit is the one thing that would most improve their daily commute
21.7% said that they wish they had better access to healthcare services
Affordability
41.2% of respondents said that their #1 hope for the city 10 years from now is that it will be more affordable and accessible
34.4% said that building more affordable housing was the #1 action the city could take to make New York City more affordable.
26.1% said that lowering/controlling rent and housing costs was the #1 action the city could take to make New York City more affordable.
Crime & Public Safety
39.6% of respondents said that more police and law enforcement was the most important action the city could take to reduce crime
27.9% said that improving safety and reducing crime are the #1 actions that could help ensure New York City remains the greatest city in the world
26.4% said that, if they could fix one thing about their neighborhood, it would be reducing crime and improving safety
Improving Trust in the Business Community
31.3% of respondents said that more transparency and honesty is the #1 thing major companies can do to improve trust
30.1% of respondents said that supporting local communities is the #1 thing major companies can do to improve trust
“New Yorkers are frustrated that we are the highest cost city in the country, but we don’t have the best outcomes when it comes to quality of life and government services,” said Kathryn Wylde, President and CEO of the Partnership for New York City. “Residents and families are demanding meaningful action on the issues that affect their daily lives. Business, government, and the nonprofit sector must continue working together to strengthen public safety, expand housing opportunities, and deliver the quality of life that every New Yorker expects.”
The survey of 581 registered voters in New York City was conducted by Morning Consult from October 16-18, 2025. Results from the full survey have a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
