Partnership Calls on State Legislature to Extend Mayoral Control

“Mayoral control is the only way to effectively manage the country’s largest public school district,” said Kathryn Wylde, President and CEO of the Partnership for New York City. “Since it was established 20 years ago, college admission for public high school graduates has reached record highs and graduation rates continue to grow. We support the governor’s four-year extension with no amendments that water down the authority of the mayor. This is particularly important to avoid political or governance distractions as students transition back to classroom learning.”
