Statement from Kathryn Wylde, President and CEO of the Partnership for New York City, on Comptroller Lander’s Recommendation on BlackRock
November 26, 2025
“Outgoing NYC Comptroller Brad Lander today issued a unilateral and incomprehensible recommendation that the city pension funds withdraw from BlackRock based on his assessment that the firm’s decarbonization policies do not meet his standards. BlackRock, originally a New York startup, is the world’s largest asset manager and a major contributor to the city’s economy and tax rolls. For decades, BlackRock has been a valued investment partner for our public and private pension funds. The firm is a key member of the Partnership for New York City and is well known for its global leadership on sustainability and environmental issues. It is our hope that the pragmatic interests of the city and our public pension funds will prevail over political theater under incoming Comptroller Mark Levine.”
