Statement of the Partnership for New York City on the Failure of the Bipartisan National Security Agreement

February 9, 2024

Press Inquiries

“This week, Congress missed a significant opportunity to reform U.S. immigration laws and authorize funding for the federal agencies, states, and cities that are dealing with the humanitarian and financial consequences of the uncontrolled influx of migrants and asylum seekers to this country. Global migration is a growing phenomenon. New York City, alone, has struggled to accommodate more than 170,000 migrants whose legal status may be unresolved for years. We cannot afford to wait any longer for solutions. Republicans and Democrats in the House and the Senate must enact legislation and authorize funding that will enable the Biden Administration, and future administrations, to manage this crisis.”
